Sequencer

A network component, typically in a Layer 2 rollup, responsible for ordering and batching transactions before they are submitted to the base chain.

Applied: most current rollups, including Arbitrum and Optimism, rely on a single centralised sequencer for transaction ordering, an acknowledged centralisation trade-off both teams have publicly committed to decentralising over time.
