A Layer 2 scaling technique that bundles, or ‘rolls up’, many transactions into a single batch processed off-chain before submitting a compressed proof or summary back to the base blockchain.
Applied: zkSync and Arbitrum represent the two dominant rollup families (zero-knowledge and optimistic respectively), both built to scale Ethereum without sacrificing its base-layer security.
