Sidechain

An independent blockchain that runs in parallel to a primary chain and is connected to it via a two-way bridge, allowing assets to move between the two.

Applied: Polygon PoS began as a sidechain to Ethereum, offering faster, cheaper transactions while periodically checkpointing state back to the Ethereum mainnet.
