The single chain of blocks that a network’s nodes collectively recognise as the valid, authoritative history, particularly after a fork is resolved.
Applied: when Bitcoin nodes briefly disagree after a near-simultaneous block discovery, the canonical chain is resolved by the ‘longest valid chain’ rule, with the losing branch discarded.
