Trusted Setup

An initial cryptographic process required by some zero-knowledge proof systems, during which secret parameters must be generated and then provably destroyed to ensure security.

Applied: Zcash’s original 2016 trusted setup ceremony involved participants destroying secret parameters across multiple independent locations specifically to make later collusion or compromise implausible.
