Symmetric Cryptography

A cryptographic system in which the same key is used for both encryption and decryption of data.

Example: AES, a symmetric cipher, is what most wallet apps use to encrypt a locally stored private key file, distinct from the asymmetric cryptography used for the blockchain signatures themselves.
