A Layer 2 scaling framework that creates child chains anchored to a main blockchain, periodically submitting summarised proofs of their activity.
Applied: Plasma was proposed by Vitalik Buterin and Joseph Poon in 2017 as an early Ethereum scaling framework; it has since been largely superseded by rollups, but laid foundational groundwork for Layer 2 design.
