Message Authentication Code (MAC)

A short piece of cryptographic data used to verify both the authenticity and integrity of a message.

Applied: secure node-to-node communication protocols use MACs to ensure that messages exchanged across a blockchain’s peer-to-peer network haven’t been tampered with in transit.
