A computing model in which processing tasks are spread across multiple independent machines working together, a structural foundation of blockchain networks.

Applied: blockchain extends decades of distributed computing research, most directly building on Byzantine fault tolerance work originally developed for fault-tolerant aircraft and spacecraft systems.
