The portion of a block containing summary metadata, including a reference to the previous block, a timestamp, and a cryptographic root of the block’s transactions.
Example: a Bitcoin block header is just 80 bytes, yet contains everything needed, including the Merkle root, to verify the integrity of every transaction within that block.
