A peer-to-peer exchange of assets across two different blockchains that completes entirely or not at all, removing the need for a centralised intermediary or custodian.

Applied: Komodo and Lightning Labs have both built atomic swap tooling allowing Bitcoin to be exchanged directly for Litecoin without a custodial exchange.
