An attack in which a valid data transmission, such as a signed transaction, is maliciously intercepted and retransmitted to produce an unauthorised effect.
Applied: after the Ethereum/Ethereum Classic split in 2016, the two chains initially lacked replay protection, meaning a transaction broadcast on one chain could be unintentionally valid on the other.
