Proof of Reserve (PoR)

A cryptographic or auditable method by which an institution demonstrates that it holds sufficient assets to back its stated liabilities.

Applied: following the 2022 FTX collapse, major exchanges including Binance and Kraken began publishing Merkle-tree-based Proof of Reserve audits to demonstrate client assets were fully backed.
