Hash Function Collision

An event, ideally near-impossible by design, in which two different inputs produce the same cryptographic hash output.

Applied: SHA-1’s 2017 ‘SHAttered’ collision, demonstrated by Google researchers, is the most famous real-world example, and is part of why blockchain systems moved decisively to SHA-256 and stronger functions.
