Block Confirmation

The number of subsequent blocks added to a chain after a given block, used as a measure of how irreversible that block’s contents are considered to be.

Applied: most exchanges require six confirmations (about one hour) before treating a Bitcoin deposit as final, balancing speed against reorg risk.
