The first block recorded in a blockchain, from which all subsequent blocks are chronologically derived.
Example: Bitcoin’s genesis block, mined by Satoshi Nakamoto on 3 January 2009, contains an embedded headline referencing a UK bank bailout, widely read as commentary on the traditional financial system it was built to bypass.
